The easiest way
to think about this is that diode lasers are great at cutting and engraving organic materials and plastic, while fiber lasers work better on metals.
A diode laser, or commonly known as blue light laser, typically operates at a wavelength around 445nm.ย It is really effective on wood, paper bags and packaging, leather, fabrics and acrylic.ย It is not good on metal.
A fiber laser, commonly known as an infrared or IR laser, uses fiber-optic cables that are mixed with rare-earth elements.ย It is invisible to the naked eye and hence called infrared. It operates at 1064nm and is specifically designed for metal engraving.

All xTool F-Series laser engravers are duo-laser machines, meaning they have both a diode and a fibre laser built in. Youโll see it in their software referred to as Blue Light and IR lasers.
